Prince Harry!

Tue May 29, 2007 at 12:06:05 AM PDT

I just read the UK newspapers online, god damn it--------------the press better not 'kill' Prince Harry.  This is a political blog, but I have to do it anyway

A Tale of two reservists, at high tea

Wed May 09, 2007 at 08:23:59 PM PDT

From an old soldier's point of view, the contrast between the two heads of state are actually glaring: Queen Elizabeth II actually has more combat military experience than George W. Bush, a fact that should prove embarrassing to the apparant chief executive if the press (or even the blogs) were to point it out--especially with the intensity of tabloid-style swiftboat campaigns.
As a young lady, Elizabeth served in World War II in the Women's Auxiliary of the Territorial Services, sort of a counterpart to the WACs in the US (jump).

Mother's Bad Boy

Wed May 09, 2007 at 08:16:20 AM PDT

There have been so many Bush gaffs and malaprops that my mother-in-law has a 365-page calendar that has one listed for each day. He teed up another the other day when he appeared on the White House lawn with Queen Elizabeth and said, "You helped our nation celebrate its bicentennial in 17__." The crowd and the press went wild after he corrected himself. It was 1976, silly, not 1776.

Boy King meets Queen and winks (photo essay)

Tue May 08, 2007 at 12:27:52 PM PDT

yesterday i diaried about how the Commander Guy got his history wrong with the Queen --- and thought she was around in 1776 to celebrate the bicentennial.

Well today we get a bird's eye view of Boy King and Queen Elizabeth in their historic garden encounter

The Boy King meets the Queen and of course flubs

Mon May 07, 2007 at 11:45:01 AM PDT

it is not enough he massages the Chancellor of Germany
why not call the Queen old?

and since he thinks Feb has 30 days (from Oct 06 -- old but always worth reliving...)

This morning my administration released the budget numbers for fiscal 2006. These budget numbers are not just estimates; these are the actual results for the fiscal year that ended February the 30th.  These numbers show that the budget deficit has been reduced to $248 billion and is down to just 1.9 percent of the economy. As a percentage of the economy, the deficit is now lower than it has been for 18 out of the last 25 years. These budget numbers are proof that pro-growth economic policies work. By restraining spending in Washington, and allowing Americans to keep more of what they earn, we're creating jobs, reducing the deficit, and making this nation prosperous for all our citizens.

i thought i would bring up the Boy King's command of history

(i have to make this short since i am ridiculously busy today trying to get real work done - hehehehehehehe)

Harry Reid snubs the Queen of England

Mon May 07, 2007 at 07:52:36 AM PDT

Although I agree that the MSM via TV is a poor way to get to the truth, I couldn't help but notice a report this morning that Sen. Harry Reid decided to turn down an offer to attend Queen Elizabeths' dinner gala at the white house.

An Invitation to the Queen

Fri May 04, 2007 at 09:02:08 AM PDT

Dear Queen Elizabeth II,

Welcome to the United States of America.  I was so pleased to learn of your visit to our fair country on the anniversary of the founding of the English colony at Jamestown.  I certainly hope you have a wonderful time here.

I know that many people write to you and that you do not have the time to respond to all, but I thank you for taking the time to read this.

My Queen Speaks in America - theft, violence, slavery and profit

Fri May 04, 2007 at 12:48:09 AM PDT

Queen Elizabeth II made a speech in Jamestown, Virginia, yesterday to mark the 400th anniversary of the founding of America as a European conquest.

I'm pretty sure it went right over your heads, so I'll try to translate the English for you.  In her soft-spoken way, the Queen chides America for being too much like its founders at Jamestown, pursuing profit at the cost of violence, theft, social injustice and slavery.

For years now I have appreciated the role of the Queen as the head of state.  The Queen allows Britons to hate the prime minister while still being loyal to the nation, something that America desperately needed in the days when hating George W. Bush meant being tarred as a traitor.  When she speaks, I listen, because very often she says something we needed to hear that no politician could say as well.  She's on loan to you Yanks for a few days.  Enjoy.

Overnight News Digest: Zombie Reagan Wins Debate

  • "Kurds have taken issue with a new provision that was quietly packaged with the draft oil law by the Shiite-led Oil Ministry last month. The measure would essentially cede control of the management of nearly all known oil fields and related contracts to a state-run oil company to be established after passage of the law... Sunni Arabs were also worried that the law would give foreign companies too large a role in the country’s oil industry." "The White House was hoping for quick passage".

  • The IRS is "curtailing audits of many people who use offshore tax havens, even when agents see signs of tax evasion, because agents fear they cannot meet a three-year deadline for finishing an examination."

Elizabeth II named top al-Qaeda Enemy

Sat Nov 12, 2005 at 06:05:24 PM PDT

An interesting story in tomorrow's Sunday Times of London.  MI-5 has intercepted a video in which al-Qaeda's Ayman al- Zawahiri names Queen Elizabeth II as "one of the severest enemies of Islam," because of her role as the Governor of the Church of England.  MI-5 is treating this as an incitement to violence against Her Majesty, and security has been beefed up.

Perhaps as worrying is a portion of the video in which Mohammad Sidique Khan, ringleader of the London bombings which killed 52 commuters, urges British Muslims to ignore moderate Islamic leaders who want integration with British society, and to take part in jihad and seek martyrdom.

Thatcher blasts Iraq war in front of Tony Blair & Queen

Fri Oct 14, 2005 at 11:25:17 AM PDT

Thatcher blasts Iraq war

This was what Thatcher said at her 80th birthday party with Tony Blair and the Queen amongst her guests!!

"I was a scientist before I was a politician. And as a scientist I know you need facts, evidence and proof - and then you check, recheck and check again."

She added: "The fact was that there were no facts, there was no evidence, and there was no proof. As a politician the most serious decision you can take is to commit your armed services to war from which they may not return."

Please note that Thatcher supported the ousting of Saddam Hussein, but wasn't so impressed by the methods.
